Learn from your past, Apply the Lessons to Now

Learn from your past, Apply the Lessons to Now

Reflecting on the past is not as harmful as we often believe. There are plenty of lessons waiting for you to learn…especially if you repeatedly make the same mistake.

If we don’t learn from the past, it repeats itself.

In the best or worse ways, the past will always repeat itself. Our lives are cyclical; for example, we experience the same four seasons, the same twelve months, and the same seven days year after year.

Some people are so stuck to routine that they live the same day over and over again. They are living the real life version of Groundhog Day.

You don’t have to live the same day, though. Your habits, your thoughts, and your relationships are apart of the past, but they follow you into this present moment.

You have the power to direct your experience through the decisions you make every day. Every decision you make has an impact on right now.

Put Your Faith in Action – Create a Past Gratitude List

I encourage you to reflect on your past decisions and create a gratitude list. Your gratitude list will help you acknowledge the spaces where God extends His grace over the mistakes you’ve made.

We are human – we are bound to make mistakes. God knew this when He created us.

Keep the lesson, forget the past

God wants us to start anew with the wisdom He entrusts with us. In Isaiah 43:18, He instructs “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.”

The purpose of the activity above is to release those past mistakes and make room for the newness that God has in store for you.

You get stuck in the past by reliving mistakes in your head. Beating yourself up about what happened won’t lead you to healing and moving forward.

When you are grateful that God kept you during those moments, you free yourself from it.

I pray that you have the eyes to see all that God is doing for you. He wants to do much more when you put all your Faith into Him.

May you experience the peace that only the Prince of Peace can give you.
