There is no limit to the amount of fear you can face in this lifetime. Fearing the unknown can keep you stuck in a position that no longer serves you. Let’s have just one convo at a time about how to work through your fears to live a fulfilling life.
Fear is an emotion that gives information.
First, let’s understand why we experience fear as an emotion. Emotions are feelings that tell us information about how we should make our next decision. For instance, when you experience the feeling of fear, your mind and body may be telling you that you need to feel protected. There is something in your environment making your life feel threatened; therefore, you need to make a decision to bring you back to safety.
Without a doubt, understanding why you’re afraid helps you consciously make decisions that make you feel safe again. On the contrary to conscious thought, our instinctual mind steps in and causes us to go into fight, flight, freeze, or fawn mode. These modes are actions we use to protect ourselves in the face of danger.
Consequentially, fear is not a bad emotion to experience; it is when you are overwhelmed by fear when it becomes a problem. Feeling fear is a natural experience and it can save our lives.
Fear can serve as an indicator of redirection.
Because fear is a natural feeling that all human beings experience, we must pay attention to it. Learning how fear plays a part in your life can tell you where you need to grow.
For instance, if you are a woman and you’re afraid of walking alone at night; perhaps, you can take self-defense classes and learn how to pay attention to your surroundings. We can’t charge the world around us, but we can elevate the way we interact with it. If you are afraid of certain things, then you can take note of the fear and do something about it.
You are powerful. You have the ability to take actions that enhance your life experience.
While God is an ever-present help, He also provides you with the tools to protect yourself. There are plenty of steps you can take to prepare yourself for any attacks and challenges in the near future.
Reframe the way you see fear
Ten years ago, Karen Thompson Walker challenged her TEDTalk’s audience to reframe the way we look at fear. In the following video, she discusses this mindset shift employing fear as an act of imagination. A gift of unintentional storytelling filled with vivid imagery and suspense.
I mean, Karen has a point – you can make a ton of money from your fears. The horror film movie genre is said to have made $700 million in 2022 alone.
In sum, fear is not all bad. Feeling our fears and expressing them in a healthy manner reveals information. Understanding why we experience fear can help us make better informed decisions.
What are some ways you acknowledge your fears? Basically, how do you take action to overcome it? I would love to hear your thoughts. Let me know in the comments below.
As always, it is a blessing to share this time with you. I thank you for your presence.
With peace
