Seek Adventure, Security is an Illusion

Seek Adventure, Security is an Illusion

I wish there was some way to experience both security and adventure, but we both know that’s close to impossible.

Daily writing prompt
Are you seeking security or adventure?

Most adventures come with a huge rush of adrenaline – it’s addicting. It’s no doubt that adventure makes us feel alive; especially, when we make it out on the “winning” side.

Allow me to share a story with you. Early June 2024, I went out for breakfast at First Watch and purposely left my phone in the car. I crave adventure, the little moments where I am fully invested in the present moment, and I believe that our phones take away our ability to be present. It’s a love practice for me to spend time alone and disconnected from my phone.

Anyways, while I sat there reading The Six Pillar of Self-Esteem by Nathaniel Branden and waiting on my food, an older White man sat beside me and started asking me about the book.

Our conversation began about the importance of self-esteem, the beauty of being an American, and how we have the make the best of everyday.

This man started off as an Airplane mechanic in the army some 40 years ago and remained doing the job no one else wanted to do. He worked his way up through the ranks and became the CEO of an Airplane mechanics company who works alongside the U.S. Department of Defense.

Proudly, he shared with me he’s been all around the world and had to adjust to the cultures of Germany, Japan, South America and more. He started off with nothing as a child from Milwaukee. He saw joining the army as a new opportunity and used that experience as a means of seeking adventure.

“The difference between adventure and adversity is attitude,” I starkly remember him sharing with me.

It was in that moment, I thanked God that I seek adventure more than security.

As a full-time entrepreneur, I get to seek adventure everyday. Some may see the ups and downs of entrepreneurship as adverse situations, but my attitude is that I get to learn from whatever path I choose to take and I’ll have fun while doing so.

How you experience your life has a lot to do with your attitude towards life.

I have an attitude of gratitude in every situation. Having security in the Lord, I can’t seek what I already have – so I seek adventure in the present moment every chance that I get.

The hip-hop prophets of the Young Money crew once said, “You only live once, that’s the motto —— YOLO.”

You might as well seek adventure, security is an illusion. Everything changes one day at a time.
