7 Motivation Challenges and How to Overcome Them

Motivation comes and goes. It is nothing like being devoted, so let’s have just one convo at a time about moving from Motivated to Dedicated.

No Motivation? No. 1 You’re afraid.

Firstly, motivation is a contributing factor to experiencing fulfillment and happiness in life. It’s okay to admit you are scared. No one prepared you for the life you would come to experience. It’s been a tough road and fear is embedded in your being. You’re not the only one who is like this – I faced it too. I want to help you overcome this fear by moving from motivated to dedicated. By all means, the rest of this post will guide you through some limiting thoughts that plague your mind.

Take Action.

Do nothing, and nothing happens. Inaction does not produce the results you are dreaming about. Certainly, it is better to do and fail than to never try in the first place.

Not Good Enough? No. 2 You don’t believe in yourself.

Secondly, too many people who suffer with low self-esteem don’t know what is self-esteem. According to Weber State University, self-esteem is your overall opinion of yourself, your beliefs about your abilities and limitations. If you have a hard time believing in yourself, then chances are increased that you don’t know yourself. When you don’t know yourself, how can you know your worth?

Consequentially, not knowing yourself leads to not believing in yourself. It is time for you to see the reason God is keeping you alive. God deemed you worthy before you entered your mother’s womb. It may be hard to believe, but you have a purpose of love on this earth, in this experience. The love you carry is meant to transform the lives of those you enter.

Have No Idea Where to Go? No. 3 You’re lacking direction.

As a result of lacking direction, you feel lost. With seeing so many different lifestyles across social media, it can be hard to know which is the best lifestyle for you. I love the car lane analogy – stay in your lane.

God provides in His plan, a plan just for you. The way He wants you to follow Him may not look like anyone else’s, so you can’t look to everyone for your direction. David wrote:

23The Lord makes firm the steps
    of the one who delights in him;
24 though he may stumble, he will not fall,
    for the Lord upholds him with his hand.

Psalm 37: 23-24 NIV

Without a doubt, when you lean into God with your whole heart, then He will direct your steps.

It Doesn’t Matter? No. 4 You’re not sure of your interests.

Social media is a blessing and a curse. On account of blessings, social media increases your ability to connect with others and learn about new ways of living. Contrarily, the exposure to so many lives can make you feel less worthy of the life you’re living. There are countless interests to choose from and you see the results those interests may have produced in other people’s lives.

Instead of following what interest you, you go after what you think will make you the most money, status, or followers. Following that path may lead you to those things, but you’ll never feel fulfilled. For this purpose, you can ask God to give you the desires of your heart. When God gives you the desires of you heart, He plants specific desires that further the Kingdom of God.

In so many words, God says “I will give you what you want” otherwise stated:

Take delight in the Lord,
    and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Psalm 37:4 NIV

Feeling Unsupported? No. 5 You’re unsure of your impact.

In reality, it’s hard to accomplish goals when it seems like no one is clapping for you. It feel like you’re invisible as if your present work goes unnoticed. The harsh reality is that some people are not paying attention to you; unfortunately, they have lives that demand all of their attention. As egotistical human beings, we can forget that sometimes. Some people can barely support themselves enough to make it through the day. It’s tough out here, but that’s why are children to an ever-present Father God.

God is the greatest provider of support. When He sent Jesus, He did it so that you may have access to the Kingdom of God. To further explain, being in the Kingdom of God offers you never-ending support. God has His right hand upholding you. It is written in Isaiah 41:10:

So do not fear, for I am with you;
    do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
    I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

It is not in God's nature to see His children fall. God is an active parent - a present parent. Someone who will never leave nor forsake you. Lean into Him.

There’s Not Enough Time? No. 6 Your time management skills are off.

Whether you believe it or not, we all share the same twenty-four hours. We experience that time frame differently, but we are afforded time to make decisions. Time is the single most valuable resource you have in this experience. It’s time that you recognize this truth and stop wasting it.

Fortunately, learning how to better your time-management skills gets better over time. Start small by setting time limits to complete a daily activity. Once you get into a consistent routine, challenge yourself to effectively complete the activity in a shorter timeframe. By completing activities in a structured timeframe, you open yourself up to experiencing freedom. With this newly earned freedom you can start doing the things that you’ve been putting off for years.

Time-management requires dedication and diligence. You can see this wisdom through Proverbs 21:5 when Solomon wrote:

The plans of the diligent lead to profit
    as surely as haste leads to poverty.

Lacking ambition? You have the knowledge, but don’t use it.

According to Oxford Languages, ambition requires determination and hard work. There is no way to experience the life you want without working for it. Even God says “faith without works is dead.” You may not need to work to get God’s covenant of eternal life. You do have to put to work the commandments and guidance God provided to reap the benefits of being in the Kingdom.

Your ambition is a reflection of the smart work you put it in. It is how you trust that God provides you a vision and a path to make that vision a physical reality. When you have God’s support, your ambition is limitless. You can accomplish anything you put your mind to. In fact, I believe Apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 4:13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength” (NIV).

Your Biggest Motivation Challenge is a Faith Challenge

The moment you dedicate yourself to strengthening your relationship with God is the moment you overcome your motivation challenges. God is a provider. When your will aligns with the Will of God, you will obtain all things in His Kingdom.

God wants for His children to be prosperous, wealthy, and fulfilled in life. It is our job to bring down the joys of heaven to earth. As it is loosed in heaven, it is loosed in earth.
